ENROLLMENT NOW TAKING PLACE AT EQUITY SCHOOLS

Enrollment of students is now taking place at Delaware and Howard Roosa Elementary Schools, which open their doors for classes earlier than most EVSC schools on Thursday, Aug. 5. These two schools are both Equity Schools in the Evansville Vanderburgh School, designed to offer more resources for the schools, a longer school year and altered hours of operation, as well as in-depth research of student data – to improve the success rates of students.

At both schools, enrollment is taking place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.  The remaining 34 schools in the EVSC will open on Wednesday, Aug. 11, including McGary Middle School, the third Equity School.            General procedures and dates for enrollment by grade level are listed below:

KINDERGARTEN ENROLLMENT
To be eligible for enrollment in kindergarten in the EVSC, a child must be five (5) years of age on or before August 1, 2010. When enrolling, a child must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The child’s birth certificate and Social Security Card must be presented. A hospital certificate will not be considered legal proof of age. For students not previously enrolled, kindergarten enrollment is scheduled for August 2-6. However, Fairlawn Elementary will have a special kindergarten enrollment on Aug. 3, with an opportunity for students and parents to meet the kindergarten teachers from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

ELEMENTARY ENROLLMENT
Any student entering grades 1 through 5, who is enrolling in an EVSC elementary school for the first time, should go to the office of that school between Aug. 2-6, unless enrolling at an Equity School, which began July 26. Parents/guardians should call the school for exact times. The student will be assigned to a homeroom upon enrollment. A student who attended an out-of-county, private, or parochial school last year must present a birth certificate when they enroll. A hospital certificate is not considered legal proof of age. Written documentation of a physical check-up by a physician and record of immunizations is required for students entering EVSC for the first time.

MIDDLE SCHOOL ENROLLMENT
Any student entering grades 6-8, who is enrolling in an EVSC Middle School for the first time, should go to the office of the school August 2-6. Parents/guardians should call the school for exact times. The student will be assigned to a homeroom at that time. Students who have already enrolled at feeder schools do not have to enroll. Students who attended out-of-county schools, private, or parochial schools the previous year must present birth certificate when they enroll. A hospital certificate is not considered legal proof of age.  Written documentation of a physical check-up by a physician is required for students entering the EVSC for the first time and for students entering the sixth grade.

K-8 SCHOOL ENROLLMENT

Any student entering grades K-8 at Lodge Community School, Cedar Hall Community School, or Glenwood Leadership Academy, who has not previously registered in the EVSC, should go to the office of the school August 2-6. Parents/guardians should call the school for exact times. Lincoln School, also a K-8 and EVSC’s only year-round school, started July 21 but will continue to enroll students.
